Mark Twain Quotes

The Hillarity & Genius of Mark Twain

Perhaps one of the most quotable individuals of all-time, Mark Twain always provides the entertainment with his one-liners.

Born Samuel Clemens in Mo, a rural town of Florida in November 30th 1835, the infamous literary name was derived from his days as a riverboat pilot. The term ‘Mark Twain’ means safe navigation, once the river bed is a safe depth for boats to pass. This probably gives a reasonable indication as to the mans humor and outlook on life.

Twain has reached posthumous Instagram fame with the regularly misquoted phrase;

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”

Thing is, he never actually said that. Fortunately for us there are a myriad of the mans witticisms that we can paraphrase on Social Media. Here are few of the best Mark Twain quotes..

“I do not fear death, I had been dead for billions of years before I was born and didn’t suffer the slightest inconvenience.”

“The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.”

“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.”

“Don’t go around saying the world owes you a living. The world owes you nothing. It was here first.”

“Never allow someone to be your priority while allowing yourself to be their option.”

“Don’t part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live.”
